thing is planned to happen or be given to them now, or very soon, often after they have been waiting for it for a long time.

  • It finally happened. I'm skipping my language class tonight. I said I woudln't skip unless I was sick. well, today I have a weird cough, I'm cold, tired and I think I due for an early night with some good rest.

# steal someone's thunder

to lessen the effectiveness of someone's statement or action by using or doing it before that person
thunder represents the acclaim or praise that one is due. 

  • you get an A on your report card and go to brag about it to your parents but then you find out that your brother got straight A's, you can say
    "Stop trying to steal my thunder!"
